Holiday Giving Project 1: Improving Traditional Cookstoves- Nepal

This project aims to improve health, reduce environmental impact, and build local skills by introducing improved mud-chimney cookstoves in a rural village. A key goal is to train 5–6 community members to construct and maintain these stoves using locally available materials. This training will ensure long-term sustainability and empower participants with income-generating skills, while also allowing the community to maintain and expand stove use beyond the scope of this project.

Holiday Giving Project #2: Rice and Nutrition Workshop

This project aims to strengthen food security and improve community health by equipping local farmers with the skills and resources needed to grow rice. A community-wide training program will be conducted to transfer knowledge on rice cultivation, with a focus on practical, hands-on learning. The training will build on the success of a few farmers who previously participated in a similar program in another region and achieved impressive yields.

Holiday Giving Project #3: Guinea Computer Lab

The project aims to establish a computer lab and institute a technological literacy course held at the secondary school in the community. The course will be available to all students, as well as to members of the community. The fundamental purpose of this computer lab is to expand the capacities of the teachers and administration, and build the capacities of the students. The class will be focused on these main competencies: basic computer functions, internet navigation, digitalized administrative functions, and typing skills. These are all valuable skills which can open up educational and employment opportunities for the students. The desire for access to these competencies has existed within the community for a long time, and the community is very motivated to move forward. As electricity is not widely available in the community, part of the cost for this project will include the purchase and installation of solar panels.

Holiday Giving Project #4: Moving Forward Initiative

This project aims to build the income-generating capacity of out-of-school youth through hands-on technical and life skills training. In response to a community-identified need for youth empowerment and economic opportunity, the initiative will provide 50 young people with a four-month training program focused on one of several technical trades, including hairdressing, blacksmithing, welding, shoemaking, sweater making, or information technology. In addition to technical instruction, participants will receive training in life and business skills to support long-term success.

Holiday Giving Project #5: Rural Maternity Ward Development

This project aims to improve maternal and child health services in a rural village in southern Senegal by constructing a new maternity ward and strengthening the skills of local Community Health Workers. A key focus of the project is training—ensuring that health workers are equipped with up-to-date knowledge on maternal care, childcare, and hygiene. These trained workers will then share what they’ve learned with families in their own communities, helping to spread healthy practices more widely.

Support the Curtis Family Fund

The Curtis Family Fund supports current Peace Corps Partnership projects around the world. The fund is supported through proceeds from the sale of the RPCVs of Madison, Wisconsin annual calendar, branded merchandise, and through donations of our membership.  During 2020, when no PCVs were overseas, the money was used to support local organizations who were involved in immigrant/refugee and homeless issues as per our strategic plan.
