RPCVCO supports a book club for RPCVs in the Denver area. The group meets every other month to discuss books relevant to the Peace Corps community. The next meeting information is below. Location: Tony’s Market 950 Broadway, Denver, CO When: April 10, 2013 6:30-8:00 pm Apr 10 Waging Peace: The Art of War for the Antiwar Movement by Scott Ritter, 2007. (Not the one we read in 2012) The book looks at organization, strategy and tactics in the military and how they can be used in the Peace Movement.Jun 12 A Short Walk in the Hindu Kush by Eric Newby, 2008. Frank and funny account of a mountain-climbing expedition in the wild and remote Hindu Kush, in north-eastern Afghanistan. One of the classics of travel writing. Aug 14 Hope and Other Dangerous Pursuits by Laila Lalami, 2006. Fiction. A different twist on the immigrant story, Muslims immigrating from North Africa to Europe. Oct 9 Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity by Katherine Boo, 2012. A brilliantly written, fast-paced book, based on three years of uncompromising reporting. A bewildering age of global change and inequality is made human. Dec 11 The World America Made by Robert Kagan, 2012. American world order: is it worth preserving or should we pull back? Issues of globalization and U.S. position in the world. Our Book Club meetings are on the second Wednesdays of even months. Tony's has a store parking lot, and street parking is free after 6:00.
